Enhancing the Zoo Experience

Sometimes there really is such a thing as (almost) instant gratification.

The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is located on more than 25 acres in Gulf Shores and features 300 animals. It is one of the most popular family attractions in the region and has been voted the “#1 Zoo in Alabama” for the past two years. Now, thanks to a 2020 Impact 100 grant, the non-profit is boosting its education mission.

Director Joel M. Hamilton said it was clear the zoo needed new audio/communication equipment for their daily presentations and special events. With the $90,000 grant secured, they moved quickly and have operated the sound systems on the event stages since March.

“It’s been a total game changer,” said Hamilton. “Everyone gets a better experience. The set-up is so fantastic that you can hear just fine no matter where you are sitting.”

Want to see the grant at work for yourself? The zoo is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. Visit alabamagulfcoastzoo.com to check for special events.
